๐ Step 1: Basic Checks
- Make sure the mic is plugged in properly (if external).
- Check physical mute switch (on headset or inline control).
- Test with another device (to rule out hardware failure).
- Use another port
โ๏ธ Step 2: Set the Correct Mic as Default
- Right-click the ๐ speaker icon in your taskbar.
- Choose "Sound settingsโ
- Make sure the correct mic is set.
- Speak into the mic โ do you see green bars? If not, continue.
๐ง Step 3: Check Microphone Volume
- In the Recording tab, double-click your microphone.
- Go to the Levels tab.
- Make sure the mic is not muted and volume is at least 80-100.
๐ Step 4: Give Apps Permission to Use the Mic
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Ensure Microphone access is turned ON.
- Make sure "Let apps access your microphone" is ON.
- Scroll down and enable access for specific apps (e.g., Zoom, Teams, etc.).
๐งช Step 5: Test Your Mic
- Use the Sound Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Sound.
- Scroll to Input section.
- Choose your desired mic. Scroll to Microphone Test section and choose โStart Testโ
๐ Step 6: Update or Reinstall Audio Drivers
- Go to Search > Device Manager and open it.
- Expand Audio Inputs and Outputs.
- Right-click your mic and choose:
- Update Driver or
- Uninstall device, then reboot your PC.
